Lakefront Boathouse

Trade Design Build designed and built this timber-framed boathouse for a residential client on Seneca Lake. The goal was to create a resort feel for the family’s lakefront area, separated from their main home by a large cliff.

To achieve this we organized the design around a boardwalk, connecting the tram to the storage building and outdoor dining room on the north end of the site, and the seating area and dock on the south side of the site.

The boardwalk shelters a cozy stone beach and creates storage space for kayaks and other outdoor recreational equipment.  The structure floats on steel piles, allowing the water to flow in and out, and integrate seamlessly into the dock.  Larch timbers and siding create a warm backdrop to the shale cliffs and cool blue lake waters.  The low-slung roof of the storage building extends out west, to shelter the outdoor dining room, and provide a special place for the family to gather.
