Trade Design Build served as Architect and General Contractor for the expansion of the Watershed into the basement of Historic 121 West State Street, in Ithaca. With the success of The Watershed, the owner capitalized on an opportunity to grow into the lower level space and envisioned a different—even more unique—experience for patrons.
The Downstairs concept was that of a quick service draft bar with a focus on the standing room and a boisterous atmosphere. The owner’s wanted to establish an approachable, working-class feel and create a space where everyone would feel welcome. To achieve this sentiment, the design team maintained and highlighted the rough stone and peeled paint shell of the space and put the extensive tap offerings on display by stringing them out along a rough concrete back bar. Coolers line the back wall for quick and easy access to keg changes and are also integrated into the furniture to maximize the use of an otherwise smaller space. Finally, rough concrete and warm wood surfaces enhance the rustic feel of the space.
